It Pays to Play with Presort
The presorting process is essential, and it’s the first opportunity you have to get postage estimates for your mailing. With BCC Mail Manager™, you can add the comprehensive Package Services option, which allows you to sort and identify the best price option for your mailing, since presorting based strictly on the size will result in the best available price.
Let’s explore the following example:
If you have a list of 4,645 pieces with each piece weighing .80 pounds (12.8 ounces), you could sort it as Bound Printed Matter, Parcel Select, or First-Class™ Parcel.
Without any other discount in play, your postage could be:
- Bound Printed Matter: $7,757
- Parcel Select: $31, 235
- First-Class Parcel: $19,045
However, if you add in a Sectional Center Facility (SCF) entry discount for Bound Printed Matter or Parcel Select, those numbers drop to:
- Bound Printed Matter: $5,955.15
- Parcel Select: $24,033.11
Please note there is no change to the cost of First-Class Mail® as there are no entry discounts available.
These prices reflect 2018 postage rates.
You can see that after establishing your mailpiece meets the content criteria for the certain mail classes, it can quite literally pay to play with the presort settings. If you are mailing First-Class, but your mailing could be eligible for destination discounts not available with First-Class, then we recommend you explore other presort options that may work better.
