Home / Industry Update: USPS® Announces New Postmaster General
On May 6th, 2020, the USPS® sent out an alert announcing the United States’ 75th Postmaster General – Louis DeJoy. According to the official report, Mr. DeJoy was elected via unanimous selection by the Board of Governors. This selection follows a lengthy, nationwide search after the current Postmaster General, Megan Brennan, announced her intention to retire in October 2019.
Prior to this position, DeJoy was Chairman and CEO of New Breed Logistics, Inc., which he transformed from a small, family-owned transportation company with ten employees into a nationwide provider of highly engineered, technology-driven enterprise with more than 9,000 employees. New Breed Logistics was a contractor to the USPS for over 25 years, which means that DeJoy is coming into his new role having spent many previous years working closely with the Postal Service.
“Having worked closely with the Postal Service for many years, I have a great appreciation for this institution and the dedicated workers who faithfully execute its mission. I look forward to working with the supporters of the Postal Service in Congress and the Administration to ensure the Postal Service remains an integral part of the United States government. Postal workers are the heart and soul of this institution, and I will be honored to work alongside them and their unions. It will be an incredible honor to serve as Postmaster General, and I commit myself to upholding the Postal Service’s cherished role in our nation,” Mr. DeJoy stated in the announcement.
